Notre Dame held on at home for a 22-17 victory over Vanderbilt on Saturday to maintain their perfect record on the 2018 season. The Fighting Irish had a close call against the Commodores, as the visitors to South Bend racked up more total yardage on offense and twice pulled within a single score in the second half. But Notre Dame generated three turnovers to secure the narrow victory.

Brandon Wimbush had a rough game against the SEC defense, going 13-of-23 for 122 passing yards. Wimbush did add 84 yards and a rushing touchdown on 19 carries, but it was Ian Book who came in and threw Notre Dame’s only passing touchdown of the game. Tony Jones Jr. rushed for 118 yards on 17 carries, but never managed to get across the goal line.

Even with the losses to the two teams ahead of them, Notre Dame will likely stand pat in the AP Top 25 this week as they are leapfrogged by several teams whose performances were more impressive. The Fighting Irish hit the road for the first time in 2018 when they face Wake Forest next week.
