Ohio State Football: 5 biggest overreactions from big win over TCU
3. A four-minute stretch in the third quarter saved the season
Heading into the second half, Ohio State hadn’t done much on offense. They scored a defensive touchdown and kicked two field goals but the offense stalled when they needed to put points on the board.
You can argue that the third quarter of this game will be the most important of the season for Ohio State.
After a TCU punt left Ohio State with good field position, there were seven minutes to go in the third quarter. Down by eight points, the next sequence of events changed the game completely.
Parris Campbell scored on a 63-yard touchdown on a pass from Dwayne Haskins that got the Buckeye part of the crowd back into it. After failing the two-point attempt TCU had the ball at the 25-yard line.
Two quick plays for five yards led to a third-and-five for TCU. Shawn Robinson tried to throw a screen pass that was intercepted and returned for a touchdown. Ohio State was now up 26-21.
After picking up a first down on their next offensive series TCU had to punt from their own 23-yard line. Shawn Wade blocked the punt and Ohio State recovered the ball at the 25. Two plays later KJ Hill scored on a 25-yard touchdown pass from Dwayne Haskins which gave the Ohio State the lead for good.
This sequence this set of events happened in four minutes of game time and could be considered the most valuable moments of the Buckeyes season if they make the College Football Playoff.
