Texas, to their credit, has bounced back pretty well after their disastrous loss to Maryland in week one. Their close win against Tulsa wasn’t very impressive, but last Saturday’s domination of USC was encouraging for sure. I don’t think USC is any good this year, and Maryland did lose to a bad Temple team, but ignore that. Texas is 2-1, and that’s better than being 1-2.

They still have plenty of work to do though. Sam Ehlinger, while he wasn’t terrible, just isn’t very accurate, and I don’t see that changing. The rushing attack with Tre Watson and Daniel Young was decent enough, but this team desperately needs Keaontay Ingram back. Oh, and on top of that, they need to be giving Lil’Jordan Humphrey much more touches. We’ll see if they do in the Big 12 season.

Texas Tech may have quietly had the second most impressive win of any Big 12 team last week, behind Oklahoma State, of course. Texas Tech beat a very talented Houston squad 63-49, and in that shootout, answered quite a few questions we’d had about the Red Raiders. The most obvious of those questions was about the quarterback play following the loss of McLane Carter.

Well, the answer seems to be freshman quarterback Alan Bowman. Bowman was spectacular in this one, throwing for more than 600 yards, and five touchdowns, all on 43 completions (59 attempts), and zero interceptions. For a freshman, that’s awesome. In fact, for just about anyone that would be awesome. Ta’Zhawn Henry, T.J. Vasher, and Antoine Wesley all had big games too.
