5. Will Grier versus K-State

Will Grier and the West Virginia Mountaineers have the S&P+’s fourth-ranked offense in the country. Grier, a Heisman Trophy favorite, has thrown for 761 yards and nine touchdowns through only two games of action. In 2017, Kansas State intercepted Grier twice but he still managed four touchdowns as West Virginia emerged victorious in a close ballgame.

The Wildcats are 2-1 but they have been anything but efficient so far. The S&P+ has K-State ranked 75th overall, and with only the 59th ranked defense. If Grier can pick apart a normally strong Wildcats defensive unit he’ll further his push for the Heisman Trophy in December.

Kansas State’s offense, however, will try to limit the WVU offensive possessions by playing a ball control attack that focuses on the quarterback running game. Grier definitely won’t get in a passing duel type of shootout with the Wildcats quarterback. Skylar Thompson and Alex Delton, the two-headed K-State quarterback duo, have thrown for less combined yards in three games than Grier has by himself in two games.

WVU is a two touchdown favorite at home over Kansas State and I don’t expect that to change as the Wildcats don’t seem to be able to score points with the Mountaineers.

Prediction: Grier 400 yards passing, five touchdowns, one interception
