Oregon Football: 3 bold predictions for home tilt against Stanford
2. Bryce Love is held under 100 yards
For all of the hype the Stanford defense gets, the Ducks defense isn’t shabby, either. Oregon’s defense is sitting at 63rd per the S&P+ but Jim Leavitt’s squad goes for big plays and havoc on their side, too. They run a base 3-4 and will rely on Jalen Jelks and Justin Hollins to continue their aggressive ways.
Bryce Love sat out the Cardinal victory over UC Davis and was held to only 29 yards against San Diego State in the season opener. Love isn’t off to the fast start he showed in 2017 but the talent is obviously still there. In 2017, Oregon gave up 147 yards and two rushing touchdowns to the Heisman Trophy runner-up but with the offense much improved and Herbert healthy Oregon will hold the football long enough to keep Love from breaking 100 yards.
The Ducks have 10 different players with a pass defensed, 11 players with a tackle for loss and seven players who have logged a sack in 2018. that’s a havoc-filled defensive side that has to have defensive coordinator Jim Leavitt more relaxed about his chances against K.J. Costello and Bryce Love.
If Oregon can shut down J.J. Arcega-Whiteside as well as Love that’s a guaranteed victory for the Ducks.
