3. Brian Kelly is already warming up his hot seat

Brian Kelly is in denial. He’s not sure what to do with the quarterback position and he’s not doing much to explore his options. Handing quarterback Brandon Wimbush they key to the car is one thing, but following a quarterback as beleaguered as he is without question brings the credibility of Kelly’s other decisions under fire.

In games when Notre Dame has a superior edge in overall talent, like the contest against Wake Forest should be, the Irish should be able to roll out of bed and win by 40. Several of the nation’s top programs are blowing out interior opponents with ease, but the Irish have yet to post one double-digit victory this season.

Kelly has done a great job as the head coach at Notre Dame. His resume includes a National Championship Game appearances and a plethora of winning seasons. The bar at Notre Dame is higher than that. Struggles out of the gate to this degree compounded with games against Stanford and Virginia Tech aren’t going to make things any easier.

“Okay” isn’t good enough at Notre Dame, and Kelly is going to learn that the hard way if things don’t turn around soon. Overlooking Wake Forest will make that soon come quicker than expected.
