1. Jalen Elliott will be a Thorpe Award finalist

Jalen Elliott continues to be one of the bright spots in the Notre Dame secondary. If he continues to play at this pace there is no doubt he will be viewed as a serious contender for the Jim Thorpe award which goes to the nation’s best defensive back.

In the win against Wake Forest Elliott eight tackles and picked up half a sack. He wasn’t targeted in the secondary which is a testament to how much he has improved in coverage during his time at Notre Dame.

The key matchup in next week’s top 10 showdown against Stanford will be how he is used to focus on slowing down Bryce Love. Love has struggled so far this season but did score his second touchdown of the season in the Week 4 overtime thriller against Oregon.

In each of the last two games against Notre Dame Bryce Love has reached the 100 yard mark and found the end zone. Will he get to those numbers this week? If Elliott play’s at an A+ level the Fighting Irish may slow down the Cardinal offense and come away with the W.
