Big 12 Football: Texas surges back in Week 4 power rankings
Are we ready to live in a world where Texas Tech is… good? Their win over Oklahoma State was extremely impressive, and while I’m not ready to fully buy into the Red Raiders being a full-on good team, I do think this may be the best roster Kliff Kingsbury has had in Lubbock. The defense has plenty of talent, and if it could just be top 60 good rather than top 90 good, Texas Tech may be an actual Big 12 contender.
The star of the show, however, is obviously the offense. Alan Bowman looks spectacular, and I really like running backs Ta’Zhawn Henry and Demarcus Felton. I’d like this team a lot more if they ran a civilized offense instead of that awful pure air raid that they love so much (just run a little more y’all, please), but as of right now, Texas Tech seems to be headed in the right direction.
Texas isn’t back, and I think they’re at least another recruiting class from being “back”, but they do seem to be very weird, and at least above average, if not flat-out good. They put on a super impressive performance against TCU this past weekend, and while I don’t trust them at all yet (this is a theme this week), it’s hard to doubt a win like that.
I don’t think Texas can win more than eight or nine games with Tim Beck calling the offense, but I do think if they lean on a good defense and get the ball to Lil’Jordan Humphrey and Collin Johnson, they can win quite a few games in this conference, and maybe even make the conference title game.
