Congratulations to West Virginia on moving all the way to second in my rankings, not through any real doing of their own, but just because the eight other teams in the conference that aren’t Oklahoma managed to already screw up at least once. West Virginia is 3-0, they’ve beaten up on three bad teams, and we know absolutely nothing about how good they actually are.

They seem to be pretty good! Will Grier is good! But at this point, we know that they can take care of business against an awful Tennessee team, an FCS team, and a struggling Kansas State team. I think this weekend against Texas Tech will tell us more about this team than any of the first three games did. Or maybe it won’t! Maybe Texas Tech is bad too! There’s no way to know at this point in the year.

Oklahoma tried to hide their sins behind a $45 pay-per-view feed, but thankfully for a beautiful soul on Twitch, we all saw exactly what the Sooners did this weekend. They let Army have the ball for almost an entire football game, and survived a serious threat from the Black Knights only when Army made the mistake of trying to pass.

This was a really rough showing for Oklahoma. It wasn’t enough to drop them from the top spot, but this raised a lot of concerns about the Sooners that weren’t really there in the first three weeks. This defense has a lot of issues. This offense has some efficiency issues. The Sooners gave up a 10:47 minute drive, and very nearly lost the game on what would’ve been a 12 minute, 99 yard drive.

They won’t face another offense like this, but regardless of opponent, that just isn’t going to cut it. They got lucky this week, but I don’t think they can play like that again and expect to win.
