5. Messiah deWeaver, QB, 3-star

Will Grier will be moving on from WVU following this season, and current East Mississippi C.C. quarterback Messiah deWeaver could be a potential replacement for the Heisman-hopeful.

The 6-foot-5 JUCO product is a three-star recruit, but was once one of Michigan State’s prized recruits, having committed to the Spartans out of high school; he was a Top-250 prospect.

He originally held offers from Louisville, Michigan, Mississippi State, Penn State, and other Power Five programs, but opted to head to Lansing before transferring to EMCC, home of the first two seasons of Last Chance U.

With a commitment to the Mountaineers, deWeaver would immediately compete for the starting job with junior-to-be Jack Allison, who arrived at WVU via a Miami transfer. Expectations would remain high, however, as Mountaineer Nation is experiencing a constant high with the 2018 team.

Mills would have time to develop as a player, but given his size could be a contributor from day one, especially with the new redshirt rule.
