Group of Five Upset Threats in Week 5
At this time of year, the games pitting Group of Five hopefuls against Power Five competition start to thin out as every conference begins to focus on league play. As opposed to the first few weeks of the season, when there were more than 20 games each week matching up mid-major challengers against major-conference favorites, only seven such games are on the slate this week. Let’s look at three of the best chances for wins by a Group of Five squad.
No. 13 UCF vs. Pittsburgh
UCF is the ranked opponent on Saturday in a showdown between the AAC and the ACC. They are sitting as a two-touchdown favorite, a betting line that will easily be eclipsed. McKenzie Milton will be ready to exploit a defense that gives up more than four touchdowns per game and ranks 100th in the country in rushing yards allowed.
Temple at Boston College
Boston College is no longer undefeated after losing to Purdue in Week 4. Temple, on the other hand, is coming off a two-touchdown win over Tulsa for their first American Athletic Conference win of the year. Against the Eagles on the road, Temple will hope to take advantage of 71st against the run.
Rice at Wake Forest
Rice hits the road on Saturday to face off against Wake Forest. The Demon Deacons sit at .500 in the standings after their blowout loss against Notre Dame last weekend. Rice’s only win to date came in the opener against FCS Prairie View A&M, but they rank eighth in the country in time of possession and could shorten the game to surprise Wake Forest on Saturday.
