The 2018 Heisman Trophy race is shaping up to be one of the closest we have seen in a long time, and once again, quarterbacks lead the way.

As we head into the last weekend of September, you can have a valid case for any of the top quarterbacks in the country to be ranked number one. The defensive players that were on the leaderboard at the beginning of the season have dropped off either due to injury (Nick Bosa) or lack of explosive plays (Ed Oliver). Before we get into our top five rankings let’s look at our honorable mentions this week.

No. 7- Jonathan Taylor, Running Back: Wisconsin

Taylor has been consistent all season long, but when the competition has stepped up he has looked above average at best. He hasn’t found the end zone in either of the last two games and will look to buck that trend against a poor Nebraska defense.

No. 6- Bennie Snell, Running Back: Kentucky

Kentucky is quietly becoming a sneaky threat in the SEC largely in part due to Snell’s excellent place this season. He has been one of the most consistent backs in the country and has rushed for over 125 yards in three of the four games the Wildcats have played in. He has eight touchdowns and if he continues the strong play should see himself climb up the rankings this season.
