3. History is on Stanford’s side

The past three seasons, Stanford has come out on the winning end of the matchup against Notre Dame and the last time the Cardinal fell to the Irish was back in 2014. Here are the results from the last three years.

  • 2015: Stanford 38-36
  • 2016: Stanford 17-10
  • 2017: Stanford 38-20

Aside from 2016, each of these games were pretty high scoring which might be something that will occur Saturday when a new-look Irish offense with Book at the helm of it takes the field.

While Stanford owns a three-year winning streak against Notre Dame, the Irish lead the all-time series in the rivalry that dates back to 1925, 19 wins to 13.

Two of the three wins against Notre Dame came at home for the Cardinal while one was on the road. This season, Stanford travels to Indiana again after alternating home-and-away games.

Results from previous years aren’t the best way to determine or predict the outcome of a future game, but it’s worth noting that Stanford has found a formula for success against the Irish that doesn’t typically lose many games.
