A freshman carries the load

Keaontay Ingram has the size to be an every-down back for Texas. And after putting together a strong game Saturday vs. Kansas State, it appears as if the freshman is ready for the challenge.

Ingram carried the ball 10 times for 68 yards, tying his season-high in attempts and surpassing the 64 he had vs. Tulsa. After missing the USC game and running for just 38 yards vs. TCU, Ingram accepted the pressure of putting the game away.

After seeing a 19-0 advantage become a 19-14 lead, Ingram picked up a much-needed first down for the Longhorns with under three minutes to go, sealing the victory.

He had three carries for 10 yards on that final drive, which might not sound like much, but it shows the confidence the Texas coaching staff has in him to be the one doing it.

Tre Watson isn’t as explosive as Ingram, but he’s experienced and could have been the man next to Sam Ehlinger in the backfield. Instead, it was Ingram lining up there.

Watson was also pretty ineffective, carrying the ball seven times for just 24 yards, though he did complete a pass for 21 yards.
