2019 NFL Mock Draft: Projecting the first round after Week 5
The Detroit Lions need help in pretty much every area except running back and quarterback…and I guess kicker too if we’re being thorough. Anyone who has watched any Lions game this decade has seen Matthew Stafford scramble for his life, attempt to throw a sidearm pass, and have the ball intercepted. This weekly occurrence isn’t because the Detroit receivers can’t get open. It’s because Stafford doesn’t have an offensive line that can effectively create a pocket.
You know who has had a pocket over the past two years? Jalen Hurts. Jonah Williams has started every single game since his freshman year at Alabama. Williams beat out a handful of upperclassmen to earn his spot on the line. The junior has earned praises week after week by the coaching staff for his exceptional individual performances.
Williams, at 6-foot-5, 300 pounds, has the prototypical NFL offensive lineman body. However where he stands out is through his athleticism and durability. Williams, if kept at left tackle as he has been at Alabama, will do a solid job protecting Stafford’s blindside.
