Ohio State Football: 5 overreactions from comeback win vs. Penn State
5. Dwayne Haskins’ weaknesses were put on display
Dwayne Haskins has been near the top of Heisman trophy rankings for most of the week. A lot of major pundits were not throwing him to the top of the leader board’s due to the lack of quality opponents he faced outside of TCU.
This was the second game against a top 15 opponent that Haskins and the Ohio State offense struggled to make plays against in the first half. They were only able to muster two field goals in the first half against the Horned Frogs and were held scoreless in this one.
Haskins was under pressure from the Penn State defensive line for most of the game. Every time he dropped back to pass he either had to throw it on the run , run the ball himself, or get it out quickly to a receiver.
The rare instances he had time to make a deep pass he was inaccurate getting it down the field. However, in the fourth quarter Haskins made plays when he needed to get his team a victory.
He finished the game 22-of-39 for 270 yards, three touchdowns and an interception. You have to give credit to him and the Ohio State coaching staff for making the necessary halftime adjustments to get the offense in a rhythm.
Although Ohio State walked away with a win, opposing defenses have the blueprint on how to beat Haskins and it will be exciting to see how the next few opponents try to defend him.
