Ohio State Football: 5 overreactions from comeback win vs. Penn State
3. Trace McSorley almost beat Ohio State single-handedly
Is Trace McSorley the best quarterback in the country? It’s a question that has been asked many times over the early part of the season but the Penn State quarterback has proven that he can make plays in clutch moments and carry this team to victory.
McSorley started the game red-hot and he looked like he was going to put up an excellent performance regardless of how well Ohio State’s offense was clicking. He extended plays with his feet by getting out of the pocket and throwing the ball down field, and he had a number of big time runs including a 51-yarder in the first half.
He finished the game 16-for-32 with 286 yards passing and two touchdowns through the air. He also had a career-high 175 rushing yards in what was arguably the best performance of the week.
The questionable fourth down call by James Franklin could have cost Penn State a chance at the college football playoffs, and Nittany Lions fans will question why the ball was taken out of McSorley’s hands at such a critical moment.
If a quarterback draw or another type of designed run for McSorley were called it was a good chance he was getting a first down. Although Penn State walked out with a loss, there’s no question that McSorley is one of the best players in the FBS.
