Big 12 Football 2018: TCU moves back up Week 5 power rankings
I know the Kansas portion usually looks the same every week, because Kansas is a bad football team that doesn’t deserve much brain power spent thinking about them. However, this week I have an actual strong take on Kansas that isn’t just about how they’re bad. For what feels like the 15th time under David Beaty, Kansas screwed up their quarterback competition. Carter Stanley proved that in this game.
He was 24-of-32 for 247 yards, and three touchdowns. He wasn’t great or anything, but he’s infinitely better than Peyton Bender. The fact that David Beaty went with Bender because he still wants to make the air raid work at a school that will never be able to make the air raid work is ridiculous. Carter Stanley is a better player, and Beaty should’ve known that coming into the season. He didn’t because he’s a bad football coach.
There’s not a ton to say about Kansas State here, because they did about what I expected from them. They were okay against Texas, though not good by any means, which lines up with the fact that this just isn’t a very good Kansas State team. They can’t pass the ball at all, their line is awful, and their defense isn’t nearly aggressive enough to make any tangible difference against good teams.
They were able to slow down a bad Texas offense, and couldn’t do much against a good Texas defense. This Kansas State team isn’t going to a bowl game, and honestly, they might have just one win left in them this season. They just aren’t very good.
