Big 12 Football 2018: TCU moves back up Week 5 power rankings
Oklahoma State didn’t really do anything to drop a spot from fifth to sixth, this is more of a correction for TCU dropping so far after falling to Texas, and a reaction to Oklahoma State’s loss to Texas Tech looking slightly worse now. I think the Cowboys are fine, and while I still don’t like Taylor Cornelius, he looked fine against Kansas. The whole team looked okay against Kansas.
It wasn’t a great performance, but they weren’t really threatened, and they never let Kansas get too close, which is all I really ask. Oklahoma State will likely stay in this spot for a while, because they really don’t have a ton of chances to prove themselves over the next few weeks. Iowa State this weekend will be interesting, but I don’t think we learn anything until they play Texas, Oklahoma, TCU, and West Virginia.
Last week I was a bit apprehensive about the crowning of Texas Tech as a good team, let alone a Big 12 contender. Their win over Oklahoma State was impressive yes, but this is still Texas Tech. There’s plenty of reasons to not trust this team, and this week, those played out on the field, just like they do every year when Tech starts off hot and catches a good team sleeping.
I do think Texas Tech is better than usual. I think they probably win seven or eight games this year, and keep Kliff for some reason. However, they showed against West Virginia that they still aren’t ready. Their defense was good for a half and awful for a half. That won’t cut it. You simply can’t be considered a good team and come out flat like that. This feels like a better spot until we know more about this team.
