Big 12 Football 2018: TCU moves back up Week 5 power rankings
The middle of this conference is super weird. It feels like West Virginia and Oklahoma are obviously the leaders, Texas has the potential to join that group, and then pretty much any school not from Kansas can win anywhere from five to nine games. TCU is part of that group. After their tough loss to Texas, they bounced back and barely beat Iowa State, but winning that game showed some toughness and fight that TCU hadn’t shown us yet. That was good to see.
The defense was finally as awesome as we hoped, and helped the Horned Frogs overcome three turnovers. I still don’t think we know much about this team, but they lost to the number three team in the country in Ohio State and what seems to be a pretty good Texas team. It’s hard to punish them too much for that at this point, with what the teams behind them have done (or not done, rather).
I’ve talked about the Texas-Kansas State game plenty at this point, but I will say that the offense was once again pretty disappointing in that game. I really don’t think they have the playcalling or offensive firepower to beat great teams, and they struggled against a bad team this weekend. With Oklahoma on the docket, Texas gets to play as underdogs again, and to win, they need both the offense and defense to be in top shape. I don’t know if they can make that happen.
