2. He had no problem serving as the third-string quarterback
Some players enter the game and no matter where they are at, they expect to start. Players like former five-star quarterback Blake Barnett and former four-star Ricky Town have spent most of their careers going from one school to the next after getting beat out for the starting job by a more established talent. Chase Brice is not either of these players.
Hunter Johson left the program earlier in the Spring for Northwestern University after seeing falling behind in the cluttered Clemson quarterback room and now Kelly Bryant has been granted his release to finish out his collegiate career with a different team. Neither of those moves were selfish necessarily because they are looking to take their careers to the next level. In other cases, players would rather stay in a program for their educational benefit.
Brice mentioned to tigernet.com shortly after his game-saving drive Saturday that leaving Clemson had never crossed his mind. He decided to commit to Clemson shortly after Hunter Johnson committed because the kid knew it was the place he needed to go. In his words “It was just the place I wanted to be, and I knew I would strive at – it helped me to become a better man, a better person, and a better football player.”
The Redshirt freshman is currently in his second year in Clemson’s Pre-Business program.
