2. Landon Wolf establishes himself as a premier slot receiver in the Big 12

This season was supposed to be a nice send off for senior wide receiver Jalen McCleskey. However, it turned out to be nothing of the sort since he announced he would transfer from the Oklahoma State football program after the Week 4 loss to Texas Tech. That week in between the loss to Texas Tech and the eventual win over Kansas was not too friendly to the Pokes.

The wideout that was put in position to take the place of McCleskey in the slot was the former walk-on Landon Wolf. It was a nice way to get comfortable with this offense for Wolf to face the Jayhawks in his first start ever. Wolf had a huge outing against Kansas last week with six catches for 116 yards and one touchdown.

The initial signs of Wolf’s fortune with this offense are very positive. He found immediate chemistry with Cornelius, which is something that really only fellow wide receiver Tylan Wallace had done this year. McCleskey, Dillon Stoner, and Tyron Johnson had their growing pains in getting adjusted to Cornelius throwing them the ball.

To get anointed as truly one of the best slot receivers in a Big 12 loaded at this position would mean that Wolf keeps up that level of performance. That’s going to be more difficult to do with more stingy defenses on the horizon this month between Iowa State, Kansas State, and Texas.
