2. Trevor Lawrence can play

When Tony Elliott stopped calling screen passes and let Trevor Lawrence throw downfield he looked incredible. Two of his highlights included hitting true-freshman Justyn Ross down the seam for a 50-yard touchdown pass with the other coming on a similar play as Tee Higgins ran the same route for a 20-yard touchdown pass in which Higgins planted a safety into the ground.

Lawrence went to the medical tent early in this game as well but came out not long after. The former five-star quarterback was incredibly efficient passing the ball today going 20-for-25 on the day and could’ve had more than 200 yards if it weren’t for the dominance of the running game (we will get to that).

Lawrence looked his most comfortable in the second quarter when he led three scoring drives and put the Tigers up 28-0 going into the half. His one downfall was an early fumble when he lost the ball on a pass resulting in a Wake Forest recovery.

All in all, this was Lawrence’s best outing as a passer this season and he’s starting to come into form heading into a crucial game against a top 25-ranked North Carolina State team.
