Oklahoma certainly made things interesting in their showdown with No. 19 Texas in the Red River Shootout at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. The Sooners entered the fourth quarter down 45-24, pulled level inside the final three minutes, and then allowed the Longhorns to drive into position to set up their freshman kicker for a game-winning field goal.

Kyler Murray was great in his first and only chance to take on Texas, throwing for 304 yards and running for 92 as he accounted for five total touchdowns. But it wasn’t enough to make up for a defense that conceded more than 500 yards and allowed Sam Ehlinger to outshine Murray.

Oklahoma ultimately fell by a field goal, meaning they won’t fall too far. It stands to reason that the AP voters will probably push the Sooners out of the top 10, and the Longhorns will almost certainly slot in ahead of them. But the Sooners will still be hanging out on the cusp of College Football Playoff contention by the time the first CFP Top 25 comes out later this month.
