2. Primetime Irish still undefeated

Before the season I doubt Brian Kelly would’ve expected to be undefeated after this slate of games. The Fighting Irish have beaten Michigan, Stanford, and Virginia Tech all before Halloween in what has been an interesting season for quarterbacks in college football. Notre Dame has had a weird quarterback story as well with the little known Ian Book taking over for Brandon Wimbush behind center. Book hasn’t been perfect but he’s kept Notre Dame that way as a team and that’s the only stat that matters.

Against Virginia Tech, Notre Dame’s offense moved the football to the tune of 45 points. Book finished with 7.7 yards per passing attempt and two scores. Running back Dexter Williams was the star of primetime Irish TV as he ran for 178 yards (10.5 yards per carry) and three touchdowns against the Hokies Bud Foster lunchpail defense. Both defenses recorded two sacks and six tackles for loss but the Irish defensed five passes to the Hokies zero and scored on defense as well.

Fighting Irish placekicker Justin Yoon was a perfect 6-for-6 on extra points and made his lone field goal attempt giving the Irish the special teams advantage. Notre Dame still has a daunting schedule left with Florida State, USC, Syracuse, Northwestern and Navy all on the upcoming slate of games.
