1. The rivalry games were awesome

The rivalry games were awesome. There’s no other way to describe a 12 point combined difference between three old-school rivalry games. The first on the schedule was the Texas v. Oklahoma rivalry as part of the Texas State Fair. Oklahoma was the favorite over the Longhorns but Texas came out on top with a 48-45 victory. Kyler Murray was downright amazing and the future centerfielder will always have a place in football if he can continue to average 11.7 yards per attempt and 8.4 yards per carry while scoring five touchdowns against a really good defense.

The Texas defense did force Murray to fumble and came away with more sacks and tackles for loss than the Sooners defense. Oklahoma is going to have to find a new defensive coordinator if they want to be a regular College Football Playoff program. Sam Ehlinger also scored five times while throwing for 314 yards and running for 72 more.

The LSU Tigers came in highly regarded to face the Florida Gators. I predicted that Dan Mullen would get the Florida Gators on track and UF prevailed 27-19. The Florida defense is loaded with talent and they squashed Joe Burrow with five sacks, eight hurries, and they picked him off twice. The Gators even scored on defense with an interception return for a touchdown as LSU struggled to move the football. Lamical Perine averaged five yards per run for Florida and scored twice. Dan Mullen has the Gators at 5-1 in 2018 and looks like a great hire.

Down in Miami, the Seminoles held a commanding 27-7 lead over the Hurricanes only to wind up losing 28-27. Miami came roaring back behind the Turnover Chain and N’Kosi Perry‘s three second half touchdown passes. Willie Taggart had a great game plan to slow down the Miami defense that included a series of screen passes but eventually, the Hurricanes got to Deondre Francois.

Francois threw an interception and lost a fumble on the afternoon. Miami averaged only 2.2 yards per carry on the day but held FSU to 2.1 yards per run while bottling up Francois for only 4.1 yards per pass attempt, too. The Hurricanes are now 5-1 while FSU drops to 3-3.
