Yes, Oklahoma was unable to keep its perfect record intact this past weekend, falling to rival Texas, 48-45, but there was no way the loss could be placed on the shoulders of Kyler Murray.

Murray, who was asked to step in and replace Heisman winner and top draft choice Baker Mayfield after signing a contract with the Oakland A’s to begin his MLB career, completed 19-of-26 for 304 yards and four touchdowns. He also ran for a team-high 92 yards on 11 carries and another score.

Two turnovers committed by Murray were costly in the close lose, but the play of the talented Texas native who transferred from Texas A&M has been nothing short of remarkable this year.

Murray, a junior, has thrown for 1,773 yards and 21 touchdowns against just three interceptions. He is completing 71.1 percent of his passes and sports a quarterback efficiency of 228.3.

Four times this year he has recorded double-digit carries, four times he has ran for at least 69 yards and he has thrown for over 300 in four games.

Murray’s best showing was in a 66-33 victory over Baylor last month, a game in which he completed 17-of-21 for 432 yards with six touchdowns, adding another 45 yards and a score with his legs.
