Over the course of his career, Brian Kelly has always been a coach that is constantly shuffling with his quarterbacks and other skill positions players. Since arriving at Notre Dame, that hasn’t changed one bit.
Despite sitting at 3-0 with a win over Michigan on the resume, Kelly made the decision to replace Brandon Wimbush with Ian Book under center. And it’s paid off to the tune of three straight games with at least 38 points scored after hitting a high of 24 under Wimbush.
Kelly could have focused in on what was working with Wimbush running the offense, but he knew the odds of pulling off close wins over Stanford and Virginia Tech would be more challenging than that of Ball State and Vanderbilt as had just happened.
While he might get criticized for his decisions and demeanor on the sidelines, Kelly has proven himself to be a tremendous coach and leader for the Irish.
