Heisman Trophy Power Rankings 2018: Is Tua Tagovailoa a lock after Week 6?
Before the start of this game, it wouldn’t have surprised anyone to see the Mountaineers score 70 points on Kansas. Yes, Kansas is improving and has two wins this year, but it’s still the Jayhawks and they’re still one of the worst college football programs in the FBS.
While it was expected for Will Grier to have a great game he didn’t live up to his expectation even though some of his stats may otherwise. He finished the game 28-for-41 with 332 yards passing and four touchdowns, but he also threw three interceptions in the red zone.
The three interceptions in the red zone are the main reason he falls down our list slightly. You can’t give away easy points in any game during conference play, and those poor decisions could come back to haunt him against better opponents.
He also has to do a better job of getting rid of the football quicker as he took five sacks in this game. The Mountaineers face Iowa State this week and the Cyclones are giving up 227 yards per game through the air. If Grier can get off to a hot start then he should be able to climb up our rankings with another big performance.
