1. David Montgomery returning

Last week’s victory over Oklahoma State may have been most impressive because Iowa State did it without their best offensive player, running back David Montgomery. He had suffered a shoulder injury in the Cyclones loss to TCU the week before. Speaking at Monday’s Big 12 Teleconference, Matt Campbell said his staff hadn’t thought much of sitting Montgomery on Saturday.

"“I don’t even know if we’ve thought like that. I just think the biggest thing with David is its been a day-to-day situation. Trying to get him back to full strength. I think the thing that we’re not naive about is we’re never going to put a young man whose not 100 percent healthy back on the field. We’ve got a great training staff here so I think they kind of tell us yay or nay and David is a really good communicator so I think those things help us make the best decision really for him first and foremost."

Campbell sounded very confident that they will indeed have David Montgomery back for Saturday’s game. If that’s the case, pairing him with Brock Purdy would be a nightmare scenario with the abilities Purdy brings to the table with his throwing and running abilities.
