Group of Five Power Rankings, Week 6: AAC trio continues to lead race
By Zach Bigalke
Troy took down Georgia State at home in Week 6 to keep pace with Appalachian State and Georgia Southern in the Sun Belt standings. The trio are all undefeated in conference play, but Troy actually falls a couple of spots this week less because of their own actions but rather because the source of their only defeat, Boise State, sustained their second loss of the season.
Against Georgia State, the Trojans piled up more than 550 yards of offense. B.J. Smith led the backfield with 143 yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries. Kaleb Barker ran for 111 yards on his five carries, while the quarterback added 136 yards and two scores on 9-of-10 passing. Sawyer Smith added 81 passing yards with a touchdown and a pick on 10-of-15 passing.
Troy is on the road over the next few weeks. Liberty hosts the Trojans on Saturday, then Troy has a bye week before a Tuesday-night game in Week 8 against South Alabama at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile.
