Group of Five Power Rankings, Week 6: AAC trio continues to lead race
By Zach Bigalke
Houston took down Tulsa in a 41-26 victory at home in Week 6, winning despite giving up more than 400 yards of offense to the Golden Hurricane. The Cougars survived despite a spate of turnovers, as D’Eriq King threw two interceptions and Terence Williams coughed up a fumble. Despite spotting Tulsa an early lead, the Cougars remained square in the AAC West race with the win.
King made up for his two interceptions by throwing for 165 yards and three touchdowns on 19-of-27 passing. The quarterback added 117 rushing yards and a pair of scores on just 10 carries, showcasing all of his various skills. Patrick Carr added 91 yards, Mulbah Car contributed 74, and the Cougars finished with 312 rushing yards as a team.
Houston faces tricky road trips to East Carolina and Navy over the next fortnight before ending October with a home showdown against South Florida. If the Cougars manage to survive all three, they will vault up into the thick of the New Year’s Six battle as they climb further up the Group of Five hierarchy.
