4. Best Head Coach – Tom Herman

After another inexplicable season-opening loss to Maryland, this time on the road, it sure did not seem Texas coach Tom Herman would be garnering any coach of the year honors. After rattling off six straight wins, he has completed a turnaround not many saw coming.

After losing to Maryland by five points, the Longhorns returned home to fight off an upset challenge by Tulsa, who is now 1-5. After the bumpy start, Texas has been impressive. They cruised to a surprising 24 point victory over USC and followed that with a two-score win over TCU. Most impressive was their upset victory over Oklahoma in Red River Rivalry game.

The Longhorns are now ranked in the top 10 for the first time since they started the 2010 season ranked fifth in the country. Since 2009, the Longhorns have not lost less than four games in a season. Herman has the Longhorns poised for not only a Big 12 championship run, but possibly more.

Herman is also recruiting well. The 2018 class finished third per 247 Sports and this year’s class is currently ranked in the top 10. Winning helps with recruiting and Herman is looking to make Texas relevant on the national scene again.
