5. Biggest Surprise – Texas Longhorns

We just gave the best coach superlative to Tom Herman. Of course, his Longhorns are the biggest surprise midway through the season. Just being a fan of college football, it is fun when a blue blood program such as Texas returns after some down seasons.

There have been questions asking if Texas is fully back. It is hard to say because we are only halfway through the season. If the team that played Maryland in the opening week shows up again later this season, there will be some disappointed Longhorn fans and a lot of their early season success will be forgotten.

However so far so good for Texas. They are 6-1, sitting in the top 10 of the polls and get a well deserved off week before tackling the remaining five games on their schedule.

Many conference predictions before the season had Texas finishing anywhere from third to sixth place. Not too many predicted they would challenge for the Big 12 championship. But here they are, sitting in a position where they control their own destiny at midseason. Watch out for the Longhorns down the stretch.
