7. Playoff Dark Horse – Oklahoma Sooners

With Texas leading, there are only two options for a playoff dark horse. West Virginia and Oklahoma play each other to conclude the regular season. We will pick the Sooners to keep their playoff hopes alive.

With their loss to Texas, it was a big step back for the Sooners. As it stands now none of the teams remaining on the Sooners schedule are ranked beside West Virginia. It could change for sure, but the Sooners best chance at getting a quality victory is winning the Big 12 championship. Their non-conference wins over FAU, UCLA and Army is not very impressive and the Sooners needed overtime to get by the Knights.

The Sooners have no more margin of error. They must win out and root for Texas to do the same up to the Big 12 championship game. A rematch win over the Longhorns may just get the Sooners into the playoff, depending on what else happens around the country.

The Sooners have Kyler Murray under center, one of the best players in the country. He should be able to keep them in any game. It is a long shot possibility, but Oklahoma is still alive at being one of the better one-loss teams left at the end. After that, it will be up to the committee.
