Ohio State football is a playoff team with or without Nick Bosa
Losing Nick Bosa for a month or two was a big blow for Ohio State football, but little did the Buckeyes know his college career would be over.
Losing Nick Bosa for a a handful of weeks seemed like something Ohio State could have managed with ease. A guy like Chase Young has proven to be more than capable of dominating at defensive end in place of the injured star, so losing Bosa for a month or two wouldn’t be the end of the world.
Not many people thought it would come to this, though.
After thinking it over and presumably talking about his options with family, friends and coaches, Bosa has decided to look out for his future, withdrawing from school.
There will be plenty of criticism regarding this choice, but in a situation like his where he could be a top NFL draft pick, it’s smart to look out for his future rather than a run with Ohio State.
Sure, the Buckeyes could use him, but he’s not going to be the difference between wins and losses — though Ohio State could use his sacks and constant pressure from the edge. He doesn’t want to risk further injury and it was a foregone conclusion that he’d be entering the draft anyway, so why not skip the final couple of games and work toward being a healthy top-10 pick?
We’ve seen far too many occurrences of a top prospect getting hurt, seeing his stock fall and never being quite the same player again.
Before you decide to get angry at the junior for looking out for his future and his career, realize that you’d do the same thing in that situation with millions of dollars on the line.
Ohio State will always welcome Bosa back with open arms, so don’t think him leaving schools burns a bridge. This is something Urban Meyer supported.
And hey, Ohio State is a playoff team with or without him.
