Oklahoma is the beneficiary of this week’s drop at the top of the rankings, as they jump from three to two without playing. I think this is a bit more reflective of how good the Sooners actually are, and while I can’t justify putting them ahead of Texas until the Longhorns lose, I don’t think I’ll have to wait very long for that. With Mike Stoops gone, and only two really tough games left on the schedule, Oklahoma still looks Big 12 title game bound.

Texas moves into the top slot with West Virginia’s loss, despite nearly losing to Baylor on their own. I will say that not having Sam Ehlinger was a big reason for that game being so close, but it was more of the same for a Texas program that gets up for the big games, and plays down to their opponents. I need to see more consistency before I can trust them, and with a bye week this week, the next chance for them to prove themselves is against a bad Oklahoma State team.

For as bad as the Pokes are, I wouldn’t be shocked at all if Texas loses that game. Sam Ehlinger should be back, but he probably won’t be 100 percent. It’s a night game, on the road, and Oklahoma State is usually good for at least one upset a year. Texas could get caught looking ahead to West Virginia the week after, and just like that, we have yet another new number one team.
