3. Iowa’s front seven locks down

Coming into this Saturday’s game, the Maryland offense is ranked 17th in the nation in rushing offense, averaging 245.2 yards per game. They are led by the three-headed running back monster of Ty Johnson, Tayon Fleet-Davis, and Anthony MacFarland. The Terrapins also use backup quarterback Tyrell Prigrome in a wildcat-type formation and rely heavily on jet sweep plays to keep the defense off-balance.

On the flip side, Iowa comes into this game with one of the most dominating defenses in college football statistically. The Hawkeyes are only allowing 16.5 points per game and have the 5th best total defense in college football and the 4th best rushing defense. It all starts up front with the defensive line, which is one of the best in college football. In addition, the Hawkeyes linebacking corp has been very good, much to the surprise of many after losing the group they had last year.

It’s a battle of titans with Maryland’s rushing attack and Iowa’s rushing defense. However, this battle will be won by the Hawkeyes front seven. Iowa just has too many bodies to throw at Maryland’s offensive line and will wear down the Terrapins. Iowa’s front seven will allow less than 130 yards rushing in the game, which would be a season-low for Maryland.
