College Football Playoff: Shake-up in Week 8 New Year’s Six Projections
PlayStation Fiesta Bowl – Texas Longhorns vs Georgia Bulldogs
Rematch of the 1984 Cotton Bowl.
The Texas Longhorns were shutout in the second half on Saturday but luckily built up a lead big enough for their defense to hold onto. From Sam Ehlinger going down in the first quarter, to having a hangover from their big win just a week ago, many factors played a role in the Longhorns struggling win over the Baylor Bears.
Now the Longhorns go into their bye week looking to get healthy and refocused. The Big 12 title is theirs to lose and the Longhorns next three games won’t be easy. The Longhorns go on the road to the on the Oklahoma State Cowboys and Texas Tech Red Raiders, and host the West Virginia Mountaineers.
The Georgia Bulldogs couldn’t withstand their biggest game of the season on Saturday, losing to the LSU Tigers, 36-16. The Georgia defense gave up 475 yards to the LSU offense and were held to just 113 rushing yards for the entire game. But what provided such low numbers on offense and high numbers on defense was that the Bulldogs turned the ball over four times, giving LSU less time on defense and more opportunities to score.
For the Bulldogs, they have a bye week this Saturday before taking on the Florida Gators, who beat the LSU Tigers a few weeks ago. This game will have not only have conference and playoff implications but could also be an elimination game for a New Year’s Six Bowl.
