College football injury report: Week 8 – Trouble for Tua Tagavailoa?

Defense

Azeez Al-Shaair – FAU

Al-Shaair, one the nation’s best linebackers that no one has heard of, may not play for the Owls against Marshall on Saturday. Al-Shaair has 43 tackles, 2.5 tackles for a loss and 1.5 sacks this season. The Owls are 3-3 and have no room for error in the Conference-USA

Senior safety Andrew Soroh may take his place if he is unable to play.

Nick Bosa – Ohio State

Bosa was already out indefinitely after having core muscle surgery, but now he will not return to the Buckeyes this season. Bosa declared for the NFL Draft and will immediately leave the Buckeyes program. In the grand scheme of things, Bosa will miss only a couple additional games then he already was supposed to, but Bosa may have been able to return for the College Football Playoff if Ohio State had made it.

Damon Arnette ­– Ohio State

Bosa isn’t the Buckeyes’ only defensive concern. Starting cornerback Damon Arnette is appearing more and more likely to miss Ohio State’s match-up with Purdue on Saturday. Arnette has 21 tackles this season and five pass break-ups. Purdue shouldn’t stretch Ohio State’s pass defense too badly, but getting Arnette healthy will be a storyline for the Buckeyes.

Porter Gustin – USC

The Trojans senior leader is out for the season with an ankle injury suffered against Colorado. Gustin had 10 tackles for loss and seven sacks this season before the injury. The injury will force the Trojans to replace his production somehow, a task that won’t be easy. Any way it shakes out, it’s a massive loss for USC.
