3. Cam Akers is a man among boys

Clemson’s Travis Etienne has stolen all the headlines when it comes to running backs in the ACC. He’s more than deserving of the notoriety, but Florida State’s Cam Akers shouldn’t be far behind.

Despite splitting the backfield with James Patrick for the majority of his career, Akers had four 100-yard games under his belt coming into Saturday’s tilt and fell just short of his fifth against Wake Forest. He toted the rock 13 times for 98 yards, an average of 7.5 yards per carry, and scored two touchdowns. That’s even more impressive considering the patchwork offensive line he’s running behind.

Akers has been fantastic in an offensive that has been barely functional. Blockers or not, he finds ways to make plays, as evidenced by his 58-yard touchdown run to start the second half and put the Noles up 28-10.

Francois’ struggles plus his timeshare with Patrick are going to limit the amount of production Akers is able to rack up this season. Regardless of whether he has the best numbers, it’s clear from watching him play that he’s the game-breaking talent, one that Florida State desperately needs.
