Utah Football: 3 takeaways from Utes’ steamrolling of the USC Trojans
1. USC needs a major shakeup
As soon as it seemed like the Trojans were trending in the right direction, it all came crashing down. While Utah is a stingy opponent of late, this needed to be a bit of continuity for this young team. True freshman USC quarterback J.T. Daniels got anything but that while completing less of his passing attempts for one touchdown and two interceptions.
The ground game was just as woeful for USC as the passing game. Sophomore running back Stephen Carr was looking up this season up until the Trojans met Colorado last week. This is now two consecutive weeks where Carr averaged less than two yards per carry. Junior wideout Michael Pittman Jr. was one of the few bright spots for the USC offense since he had more than 100 receiving yards and at least one touchdown for the second straight week.
You’d figure with the roller coaster ride this season is for the Trojans so far means some type of major shakeups are just around the corner. This is a young team, but the results on the field should be much better than this. It’s difficult to figure out the direction of this squad under head coach Clay Helton.
Whether it be something as simple as a quarterback or starting running back switch, or all the way up to Helton, something has to give soon. Expectations at USC are too high for this program to be suffering from these types of embarrassing losses.
