Washington Football: 3 takeaways from entertaining win over Colorado
2. Washington can survive without Myles Gaskin, barely
Colorado was not the only team on the field in Seattle without a key piece on the offensive side of the ball due to injury. Senior Washington football running back Myles Gaskin missed this game against the Buffs due to a shoulder injury. Gaskin is definitely having a down year in terms of production, but he is still a versatile asset for the Huskies.
Washington football does have an emerging star behind Gaskin in the backfield though in sophomore running back Salvon Ahmed. As his role continues to grow in this offense, Ahmed was already averaging more than six yards per carry coming into this game and kept that trending moving in the right direction.
This offense was also able to get some consistent production out of undersized sophomore running back Sean McGrew. McGrew was given more than one-quarter of his previous carries from the rest of the season in total just in the first half alone against Colorado. Ahmed and McGrew were a nice one-two punch out of the backfield for the Huskies in the midst of Gaskin’s absence.
The running back rotation for Washington football wore down the Colorado defense for the final score of the game. All that was done without Gaskin in the backfield along with Browning. While Washington could definitely use its star running back in the lineup from here on out, it survived against a quality opponent without him.
