Mississippi State played their way into the first College Football Playoff Top 25 this week, making it the fourth time in the first five years of the series that the Bulldogs have been included in the initial list of the year. The Bulldogs took down No. 16 Texas A&M in a home game in Starkville, moving to 5-3 on the year and inching closer to bowl eligibility.

Nick Fitzgerald is back to his usual ways as the critical cog in the Bulldogs offense. The dual-threat quarterback finished with 241 passing yards and 88 rushing yards. Fitzgerald threw two passing touchdowns and added a pair of scores with his legs. The veteran was the bulk of the offense, as the rest of the backfield finished with only 55 rushing yards.

Mississippi State will slot in somewhere in the low-to-mid 20s in the first College Football Playoff rankings. The Bulldogs will put their ranking to the test next week when they take on Louisiana Tech in Starkville. Then the top-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide await in Week 11 action, a game Mississippi State can’t get caught looking ahead to instead of focusing on the task of taking on Louisiana Tech in the battle of Bulldogs.
