Oklahoma State Football: Cowboys expose Texas in Stillwater
3. The Big 12 race will be wild down the stretch
Oklahoma should be seen as a heavy favorite to get one of the two slots in the Big 12 Championship game, and they represent the conference’s best, and probably only, hope of getting into the College Football Playoff field.
However, the Sooners have shown some vulnerabilities, and they have tough road games remaining in Lubbock and Morgantown, as well as hosting rival Oklahoma State. They could very well drop one of those games, further throwing the race for the conference crown into chaos.
Texas and West Virginia are the other one-loss teams within conference play, and neither of them have an easy road, either. I already talked about Texas’ path, but the Mountaineers go to Austin next week, and finish the regular season on the road against Oklahoma State and at home against Oklahoma in back-to-back weeks.
A team to keep an eye on is Iowa State. The Cyclones sit 3-2 in conference play after their 40-31 win over Texas Tech today, and they’ll be favored in every remaining game except their November 17 showdown in Austin against Texas.
Iowa State’s defense will be problematic for the Longhorns offense, and Brock Purdy has the Cyclones offense humming. Don’t be surprised to see Matt Campbell’s team in Arlington, getting a second crack at Oklahoma for the Big 12 crown.
