Oregon Football: 3 takeaways from road loss at Arizona
By Zach Bigalke
1. Khalil Tate finally had his 2018 breakout game against Oregon
Khalil Tate was one of the most electric breakout stars of 2017. The quarterback entered 2018 as a dark-horse Heisman threat for the Wildcats, as he prepared to take the field for new head coach Kevin Sumlin. But a balky ankle and a learning curve added up to a disappointing start to the new season as Arizona plummeted to loss after loss.
Tate’s mobility proved an issue, and he was forced to sit out a game in mid-October as he healed from the injury. His return to the field against Oregon proved fortuitous timing, as Tate carved up the Ducks through the air and reminded everyone why he was such an exciting player in 2017.
Tate didn’t do a lot with his legs, opting to stand firm in the pocket and sling the ball downfield. The dual-threat star finished with only 26 yards on seven carries, but it didn’t matter as Tate took care of business with his arm. Arizona’s gunslinger threw for three touchdowns and 189 yards on 19-of-33 passing. Tate did throw one interception, but in general he made good decisions and helped engineer a resounding upset.
