Penn State receivers troubles with catching the ball this season have been well documented. Trace McSorley tops the list of Power 5 quarterbacks with the most dropped passes. But KJ Hamler has proven himself to be Penn State’s most reliable receiver through two months.

While the other Penn State receivers have consistently dropped catchable balls all season long, Hamler has stood out. Against Iowa, he was no different. He led the Lions with five catches for 96 yards. His best grab of the day was a spectacular 39-yard grab with an Iowa defender in his face to end the third quarter.

When Hamler isn’t consistently being Penn State’s best receiver, he also makes plays on special teams. With 10 minutes to go, Iowa cut Penn State’s lead to three after a pick six. Hamler took the ensuing kickoff 67 yards to the Iowa 31. The Lions would add a field goal on the drive which proved to be huge, forcing Iowa to play for a touchdown instead of a field goal to tie.

Hamler has all the makings of the next great wide receiver at Penn State. When the veteran receivers have struggled, the redshirt freshman has stood out. Plus if you did not know, his parents are pretty good rappers. Expect to hear Hamler’s name a lot more over the next couple of seasons.
