2019 NFL Mock Draft: Projected first round after Week 9
While I do think it would be a reach to take Justin Herbert so high, I don’t think the Giants can afford to go another year without drafting a quarterback early. They’ve got a load of talent at the skill positions, but their quarterback play has been putrid, in no small part due to a revolving door of an offensive line.
If they eschew a quarterback in the first round again, it would be to draft a young offensive tackle like Jonah Williams or Greg Little to try and solidify that unit. This is a possibility if they think some of the other quarterbacks in the draft are on par with Herbert and they could grab one of them at the beginning of the second round.
If I was the Giants GM, that’s probably what I would try and do, but the fans in New York might riot if they pass on a quarterback again.
Herbert is the consensus top quarterback in the draft at the moment, although his stock wasn’t helped on Saturday night in Tuscon as Oregon was blown out by Arizona 44-15 in what was Herbert’s least efficient game of the season.
