College Football Playoff Rankings: Hits and misses in Week 10 ranks

The work that Mike Leach has done in the pacific northwest is absolutely incredible. He’s turned a system that many viewed as pass-happy with no-defense into a top 10 team. The Cougars took a while to get started, falling early on to USC, but that’s not uncommon for Leach’s Wazzu squads in recent years. Once they’re rolling, they’re hard to stop.

Washington State holds victories over Utah, Oregon and Stanford. The Utes come in at No. 15 in the rankings and Oregon and Stanford, although unranked, are some of the better teams in the Pac-12. If the Cougars can win the Apple Cup and take down Washington there will be little argument that they’re the best team in the Pac-12. Will that be enough to earn a spot in the College Football Playoff? That might depend on how the rest of the schedule plays out.

The college football season is past the midway point, but it hasn’t even reached Week 10. There are still several weeks left of conference play, championship games, rivalries and more. These ranks are going to change — quite often radically — before the final four are released. There’s no telling which four will be at the top when it’s all said and done. That’s why they play the games.
