College Football 2018: 5 reasons to be excited for week 10
4 Mike Leach’s playoff hopes
Mike Leach’s Washington State Cougars are 7-1 and will host Justin Wilcox‘s Cal Bears on Saturday. The Cougs knocked off Oregon and Stanford which felt impossible back in August. I predicted Leach’s Cougars would finish less than .500 which would be impossible at this juncture in the season. Kudos to Coach Leach and the air raid offense. His ability to get Gardner Minshew up to speed at quarterback in place of the departed Luke Falk is a thing of coaching legend.
While the Cougars look like they can’t be stopped through the air keep in mind Cal knows how to win football games under Coach Wilcox. The Bears are 5-3 in 2018 and ranked 58th per the S&P+. Wazzu is only 23rd in the S&P+ through eight games. Washington State is 18th in the country in points per play this season while Cal’s plodding offense is 113th. The Bears shouldn’t be able to keep up with the Cougars offense.
If Leach’s Cougars can knock off Cal, Colorado and Arizona he heads into the Apple Cup on a hot streak. Washington is completely beatable in 2018 and if anyone has the ego to forget about past losses it’s Mike Leach. Leach has owned Oregon and Stanford and just needs to stay the course and he will gets WSU into the Pac 12 Championship Game this December.
